It is really disappointing that ministers of God
know little and do nothing about holiness.

The Meaning Of Holiness
Here is a detailed explanation of holiness.
  1. Holiness is a quality of God. Holiness means that God is so good that there is no evil in Him or from Him, and that He does not tolerate even the least evil.

  2. Holiness means that there are things which God accepts, and there are those things which He does not accept. God accepts what is holy, and rejects what is not holy.

  3. Holiness is the state of being holy - pure, separated, dedicated (reserved), sanctified (consecrated), divinely enabled and maintained as holy.

  4. The object or person is pure because it does not have contamination with some other things – it is not adulterated (polluted).

  5. It is separated because it is reserved, kept away from other things, especially those things that can contaminate it.

  6. It is dedicated because it has been presented to God as holy and as belonging to God only.

  7. It is sanctified because it has been blessed with prayers, holy water or anointing oil.

  8. And it is enabled because the spirit and power of God has been imparted to it. The evidence which shows that it has been enabled is that it can, on being sanctified and thenceforth, perform some special tasks that it could not perform before it was presented before God. A very good example is the staff of Moses. Before Moses met God on Mt Sinai, his staff was an ordinary walking stick. When Moses met God, the spirit and power of God was imparted into the staff, and it became holy staff that works miracles.

  9. Maintenance is necessary because there are laws of holiness which must be observed from day to day for the holy person or object to remain holy. Before Samson’s hairs were cut, there were holy hairs that enabled Samson performed wonders. After the hairs were cut, the law of holiness was broken and Samson lost his power and glory.

  10. Children of God must be holy, because God is holy. People should live their life in ways that are holy. “You must be holy, because I the Lord, I am holy.”

  11. Always follow due process. Do not use short cuts, which will eventually cause you more harm than good. Even business experts give this, same, advice.

The Importance Of Holiness
         The importance of holiness include:
  1. Holiness ensures purity, freedom from contaminations, pollutions and impurities. It preserves the nature and form of something.

  2. Holiness preserves the potency of something. A pure substance gives an accurate result, and is far better in performance than an impure substance. For example, pure water boils at 100oc. But, when it contains impurities, its boiling point is uncertain and therefore, unreliable.

  3. Holiness is the key to health and longevity. God has all things but He does not utilize all things. Likewise, a holy person keeps away from those foodstuffs that are not good for health and long life. He ensures moderation in his eating habit. He only eats to live, and does not live to eat.

  4. The blessings and promises of God manifest for the righteous man like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Holiness enables us to remain in the righteousness of God, to move in the footsteps of the Holy Spirit.

  5. Success and prosperity become manifest by honest means, and not by dubious ways. Such success and prosperity last longer than the benefits of cheating people, gains by blood money, etc.

  6. Holiness ensures availability of power and victory. When Samson maintained the sacredness of his hairs, he had power and victory over the Philistines. But when he abused the law of holiness, he became a miserable toy in their hands. Hence, holiness is power (Ns? bu ike.)

  7. Holiness enables parents to get God-fearing children. Children got by romantic love tend to be immoral. Examples are the Moabites, the descendants of Lot, begotten by him and his daughters. It is not surprising that the same Moabites misled the children of Israelites into immorality and idolatry.

  8. Holiness serves as a protection against the evil spirits, demons, mermaids, ghosts, witches and forces of darkness. Balaam and Balack could not curse the Israelites because the Israelites were a holy nation. The evil spirits are afraid of a holy person. That is why St. Paul was able to cast them out, but the sons of Sceva could not; instead, the evil spirits pounced on them to devour them.

  9. Everyday spiritual growth is possible when there is holiness. The same spiritual progress is hindered by all forms of unholiness.

  10. The Angels encamp around holy people of God, to defend them.

  11. By holiness, we welcome and receive the Spirit (God), which then gives us maturity and mastery. Then, you begin to do things you otherwise cannot do.

  12. We rest assured of everlasting life in the heavenly kingdom.

  13. We gain great insight and foresight, as well as spiritual knowledge and wisdom, because the Holy Spirit inspires us.

  14. Our future becomes secure like a house built on a solid rock, not like that of a house built on sinking sand.
