Psalms Of Kings

Presidents, Governors And Leaders

Psalm 21

A Psalm of David.

To the choirmaster.

1 In thy strength the king rejoices, O Lord;

     and in thy help how greatly he exults!

2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire,

     and hast not withheld the request of his lips.

3 For thou dost meet him with goodly blessings

     thou dost set a crown of fine gold upon his head.

4 He asked life of thee; thou gavest it to him,

     length of days forever and ever.

5 His glory is great through thy help;

    splendour and majesty thou dost bestow upon him.

6 Yea, thou dost make him most blessed forever;

   thou dost make him glad with the joy of

     thy presence.

7 For the king trusts in the Lord;

     and through the steadfast love of the Most

    High he shall not be moved.

8 Your hand will find out all your enemies;

   your right hand will find out those who hate you.

9 You will make them as a blazing oven

     when you appear.

   The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath;

   and fire will consume them.

10 You will destroy their offspring from the earth,

       and their children from among the sons of men.

11 If they plan evil against you,

       if they devise mischief, they will not succeed.

12 For you will put them to flight;

       you will aim at their faces with your bows.

13 Be exalted, O Lord, in thy strength!

     We will sing and praise thy power.

Psalm 72

A Psalm of Solomon.

1 Give the king thy justice, O God,

     and thy righteousness to the royal son!

2 Let he judge thy people with righteousness,

     and thy poor with justice!

3 Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people,

     and the hills, in righteousness!

4 Let he defend the cause of the poor of the people,

     give deliverance to the needy,

      and crush the oppressor!

5 Let he live while the sun endures,

     and as long as the moon,

   throughout all generations!

6 Let he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,

     like showers that water the earth!

7 In his days let righteousness flourish,

     and peace abound, till the moon be no more!

8 Let he have dominion from sea to sea,

     and from the River to the ends of the earth!

9 Let his foes bow down before him,

     and his enemies lick the dust!

10 Let the kings of Tarshish and of the isles

       render him tribute,

         let the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts!

11 Let all kings fall down before him,

       all nations serve him!

12 For he delivers the needy when he calls,

       the poor and him who has no helper.

13 He has pity on the weak and the needy,

       and saves the lives of the needy.

14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life;

       and precious is their blood in his sight.

15 Long may he live,

       let gold of Sheba be given to him!

     May prayer be made for him continually,

       and blessings invoked for him all the day!

16 Let there be abundance of grain in the land;

       on the tops of the mountains may it wave;

     let its fruit be like Lebanon;

     and let men blossom forth from the cities

       like the grass of the field!

17 Let his name endure forever,

     his fame continue as long as the sun!

       Let men bless themselves by him,

         all nations call him blessed!

18 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

       who alone does wondrous things.

19 Blessed be his glorious name forever;

       let his glory fill the whole earth!

     Amen and Amen!

20 The prayers of David, the son of Jesse,

       are ended.
