Psalms Of Holy City
Psalm 46
A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.
A Song.
To the choirmaster.
According to Alamoth.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present
help in trouble.
2
Therefore we will not fear though the earth
should change,
though the
mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
3
though its waters roar and foam,
though the
mountains tremble with its tumult.
4
There is a river whose streams
make glad the
city of God,
the holy
habitation of the Most High.
5
God is in the midst of her,
she shall not be
moved;
God will help her right early.
6
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his
voice, the earth melts.
7
The Lord of the Hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob
is our refuge.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how He has
wrought desolations in the earth.
9
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear,
He burns the chariots with fire!
10
"Be still, and know that I am God.
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth!"
11
The Lord of the Hosts is with us;
the God of
Jacob is our refuge.
Psalm 87
A Psalm of the Sons of Korah.
A Song.
1
On the holy mount stands the city He founded;
2
the Lord loves the gates of Zion
more than all the
dwelling places of Jacob.
3
Glorious things are spoken of you,
O city of God.
4
Among those who know me I mention
Rahab and
Babylon;
behold, Philistia
and Tyre, with Ethiopia
"this one
was born there," they say.
5
And of Zion it shall be said,
"This one and that one were born in
her";
for the Most High
Himself will establish Her.
6
The Lord records as He registers the peoples,
"This one was born there."
7
Singers and dancers alike say,
"All my springs are in you."
Psalm 122
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 I
was glad when they said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the
Lord!"
2
Our feet have been standing
within your
gates, O Jerusalem!
3
Jerusalem, built as a city
which is bound
firmly together,
4
to which the tribes go up,
the tribes of the
Lord,
as was decreed
for Israel,
to give thanks to
the name of the Lord.
5
There thrones for judgment were set,
the thrones of
the house of David.
6
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
"May they prosper who love you!
7
Peace be within your walls,
and security
within your towers!"
8
For my brethren and companions' sake
I will say, "Peace be
within you!"
9
For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
I will seek your good.
Psalm 132
A Song of Ascents.
1
Remember, O Lord, in David's favour,
all the hardships
he endured;
2
how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the
Mighty One of Jacob,
3
"I will not enter my house
or get into my
bed;
4 I
will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my
eyelids,
5
until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place
for the Mighty One of Jacob."
6 Lo, we heard of it in Eph'rathah,
we found it in
the fields of Ja'ar.
7
"Let us go to His dwelling place;
let us worship
at His footstool!"
8
Arise, O Lord, and go to thy resting place,
thou and the ark
of thy might.
9
Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let thy
saints shout for joy.
10
For thy servant David's sake
do not turn
away the face of thy anointed one.
11
The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which He
will not turn back:
"One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12
If your sons keep my covenant
and my
testimonies which I shall teach them,
their sons also
forever
shall sit upon
your throne."
13
For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired
it for His habitation:
14
"This is my resting place forever;
here I will
dwell, for I have desired it.
15
I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16
Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
17
There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
18
His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but upon
himself his crown will shed its lustre."
